Baahubali 2-The conclusion is directed by S. S. Rajamouli is an epic historical fiction film. It is the second and final part of the Baahubali: The Beginning.
Rajamouli’s war epic Baahubali 2 is the story of Baahubali played by Prabhas and his cousin Bhallaladeva’s essayed by Rana Daggubati. The two have locked horns in a battle for the fictional kingdom of Mahishmati.
Just to rewind according to a leaked spoiler Baahubali ascends the throne as emperor of the kingdom of Mahishmati. He falls in love with certain Devasena (played by Anushka Shetty). Bhallala Deva (played by Rana Daggubati’s character is also in love with Devasena. According to the wishes of Rajmata or queen mother Shivagami played by Ramya Krishnan, whoever marries Devasena will be exiled and will have to leave the empire. Baahubali agrees to this condition marries Devasena abdicates the throne and leaves the Mahishmati kingdom going into exile.
With Baahubali gone Bhallala Deva ascends the throne. IN a short time Mahishmati is attacked by the son of the Kalakeya King. It is a losing battle and Baahubali on learning that the kingdom is under attack returns to Mahishmati and save the kingdom. Meanwhile Bhallala Deva, who thinks the Rajmata will give reins of the kingdom back to Baahubali orders Kattappa to kill Bahubali. Kattappa, a former Baahubali under the oath of obeying the king Bhallala Deva’s orders. It is this progression in the story that leads to the now famous killing of Baahubali by Kattappa.

SS Rajamouli certainly has the vision that is very Hollywood in its scale and his visual references especially for Baahubali 2 are completely western but do you know that Rajamauli is an ardent fan of the mythological comic books of yore the Amar Chitra Katha. The director admits having tapped heavily into the ancient epics in comic book form for visual references to make Baahubali. In fact, he is of the opinion that we have, the epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana, that have great potential to be translated into film and if this is done they will be huge hits at the box office both in India and abroad as well.

Mahishmati wasn't built in a day
The creation of the Kingdom of Mahishmati is one of the biggest ever undertaken in Indian film history. Turning drawing into reality was the job of Art director Sabu Cyril. Back in 2013 with a force of 2,000 carpenters, painters and prop makers he built the kingdom of Mahishmati at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. As actor Prabhas says the Kingdom is a city unto itself where its inhabitants 1000’s of actors technicians and actors really go about living their life as they would have done in the legend.
For the battle sequences director, SS Rajamouli pre-visualised the action with the help of VFX director John Griffith one who has worked on the X-Men series. These have then been translated into on-screen action at the Makuta VFX studios in Hyderabad.
Initially, both Baahubali and Baahubali 2 The Conclusion were to be produced on a budget of ₹ 250 Later the budget of Baahubali 2 was increased. In fact, 30-40 percent of Baahubali 2 was shot during the making of the first part of Baahubali. Most of the shooting this time round for Baahubali 2, was centred around the action sequences. That sais when SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus finally hit screens on April 28, 2017, the makers had spent Rs 450 on Baahubali 2‘s making.
Baahubali 2 is the first Telugu film to be released in 4K High Definition format. The makers of Baahubali 2 will also be releasing the film in IMAX format that will enhance the viewers’ experience. The image will be wider in Baahubali 2. So, you will get to see 25% more of Baahubali and Mahishmati kingdom compared to Baahubali 1.

The makers of the Baahubali movies certainly think big and this has translated to their social media campaign as well. Baahubali 2 has used the social media to create a buzz for itself from day one as a run-up to the release of the film the makers have been regularly running quizzes and other contests across the social ecosystem. Not only that they have even conducted live events on Facebook as well and even created a series of videos on the making of Baahubali 2 The Conclusion as a way of keeping the loyal fans engaged and get new fans and followers for themselves on the social media.

Baahubali 2 The Conclusion is expected to be screened at around 6,500 screens across India in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam.The film will release in over 1,000 screens overseas, out of which 900 cinemas are booked in the US itself.

The 2 films Baahubali and Baahubali 2 have spawned a number of offshoots. The movies have been turned into a real-time mobile strategy game, titled Baahubali available on Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. An animated series titled Lost Legends has also been launched on Amazon Prime, by producer Shobhu Yarlagadda. The makers of the films also premiered a virtual reality experience, titled The Sword of Baahubali, at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on 21 April. While Baahubali 2 is running in theatres the makers have set up virtual reality kiosks in theatres across India to take the movie going experience further.

Director SS Rajamouli has roped in southern mythological fiction, author Anand Neelakantan, to write a three-part series as a prequel to the current Baahubali movies.
