The Aditya Roy Kapoor Shraddha Kapoor starrer Ok Jaanu has not lit up the cinemas, first opening weekend box office collections for the film were quite low. Ok Jaanu first weekend box office collections are Rs. 13.80 cr. On its first Monday at the box office collections for OK Jaanu dropped even further to Rs.1.95 crores grand total for this Shaad Ali directed romantic musical drama now stands at Rs.15.75 crores.

If collections remain at current levels Ok Jaanu will have collected just Rs. 20 to Rs. 25 crore over its first week at the cinemas. This does not augur too well for the Ok Jaanu stars Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor who both had flop films before this. Aditya was part of Fitoor and Shraddha was in Rock On 2 which too failed to click with the audience.
This also means that the year has not opened on a high note for Bollywood at the box office. The saving grace being Dangal who continues its box office march. Dangal collected Rs. 4.24 crore more on its fourth Sunday which is at par with Ok Jaanu film collections for its first Sunday. From this it could be assumed that Dangal did bite into OK Jaanu collections at some level. Currently box office collections for Dangal stand at Rs. 370 plus crores. Going by its current collection rates the film will cross another record of Rs.375 crore at the domestic box office before it closes its fourth week.
What does a bad opening weekend collection for Ok Jaanu that mean for Bollywood, are remakes of regional films a bad idea? Is the bubblegum romantic musical dying in Bollywood? Or is it that the pairing of the original Aashiqui 2 cast of Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor wrong for Ok Jaanu? Bollywood will have to put on its thinking caps and find an answer fast.
