The world was shocked when National Award Winner director of Indian Cinema Sanjay Leela Bhansali was attacked by protestors yesterday in Jaipur at a fort on the sets of his upcoming film Padmavati. The director was slapped and his hair pulled along with protestors breaking the equipment on the sets of Padmvati at Jaigrah Fort yesterday 27th January 2017. Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are the lead cast in the film.
Deepika Padukone who also was the lead cast in SLB's last two movies Ramleela and Bajirao Mastani known to be a close friend of SLB - broke her silence on the protests in support of the director. Deepika denied any change in the script as claimed by the Rajasthani protestors.
Soon after Deepika tweeted it was Shahid Kapoor who took to Twitter to express his anger at the people who are misinformed about director Sanjay Leela Bhansali abnd expressed his wish to be by SLB's side when the protest and attack happened yesterday. Ranveer Singh joined in the support of his favourite director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and tweeted
"As a team, we are making 'Padmavati' keeping in mind the sensitivities and emotions of the people of Rajasthan and the Rajput community."
"Sanjay Sir is one of the most accomplished & authentic filmmakers we have in India, & he wont ever do anything to hurt anyones feelings."
Ranveer also added "Whats happened is very unfortunate. We hope the people of Rajasthan will understand & empathise with our intentions & give us their support."
Joining them were directors Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar who also faced protests for their films Udta Punjab and Ae Dil hai Mushkil in the recent past in 2016. Actor director Farahan Akhtar also condemned the attack on democracy saying that "My fellow film folk, if we do not unite now against these recurring incidents of bullying, it's going to get much worse. #IstndbySLB. "
Sonam Kapoor who made her debut film under director Sanjay Leela Bhansali appealed to the PM Narendra Modi and wrote: "A gentle reminder sir... a couple of days after republic day if we as an industry have to deal with such humiliation for expressing ourselves , it's frankly very disheartening . Please stand up for us..Padmavati"
